Static IP for OpenVPN

Always the same IP

Every device on your network gets a static IPv4 address. The Olivia VPN is fully redundant, but makes IP management simple by providing you with a single static IP address. Traffic to public IP addresses routes directly to the internet via a static public IP.

Secure OpenVPN for IoT

Multiple connections

The OpenVPN service comes with two profiles to access our OpenVPN server. A typical setup will use one profile for the server to access the SIM cards and one for testing and maintenance via a personal desktop. The .ovpn configuration file is ready to use in the OpenVPN client. This solution can be used to connect an infinite number of SIM cards to your server.

Frequently Asked Questions about OpenVPN for IoT

Setup

How do I set this up on my computer?

When ordering your SIM cards with the OpenVPN option all information will be available on our SIM platform. We set up your account, assign a subnet to it and assign a static IP address to the SIM cards. You receive the .OVPN configuration file and a manual to set it up on Mac or Windows.

Which operating systems do you support?

Our manuals focus on Mac and Windows, or you can set this up on Linux or any server. All clients that support the OpenVPN protocol are compatible.

Can I connect to hardware in the local area network (LAN) of my mobile router?

Yes. Just set port forwarding rules in your hardware to get access to any device in the LAN.

Do I have to install anything on my mobile device?

No. The SIM connects to the network, just like a normal SIM card does. The OpenVPN service provides a path that allows securely connecting to your hardware.

Connection

Can SIM cards connect to each other's IP address?

No. SIM cards can only connect to public IP addresses or the IP addresses of OpenVPN users in your account.

Can my SIM cards still be used to access the internet?

Yes. SIM cards can connect to the internet (public IP addresses).

Is there a maximum number of SIM cards that can be used with this solution?

No, in theory, the maximum number of SIM cards is infinite. We do advise to migrate to an IPSec VPN for deployments over 100 SIM cards.

Security

Are my SIM cards publicly accessible?

No. Only users from your account with an OpenVPN connection can access the SIM cards.

Can I access SIM cards from other customers?

No. Your SIM cards get an IP from a dedicated subnet assigned to your account. Only you can access the subnet and the SIM cards.

Account & billing

Can I use your OpenVPN service with other networking services Olivia Wireless offers?

Yes. You can have multiple network services active in your account. Combine the OpenVPN service with an IPSec VPN, CloudConnect, or Public IP.

What are the monthly fees for this OpenVPN service?

For this service you pay an additional monthly fee of $1.10/€1.00 per SIM per Month. You can request this service for individual SIM cards and cancel daily.

What SLA do you provide on the OpenVPN server?
